This gets my vote for the best <a href=\"\/fun\/terms-used-in-anime-reviews#anime\">anime<\/a> of the Spring 2013 season.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Amy-in-flight.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Amy-in-flight-550x309.jpg\" alt=\"Amy in flight\" width=\"550\" height=\"309\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9010\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Amy-in-flight-550x309.jpg 550w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Amy-in-flight-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Amy-in-flight-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Amy-in-flight-500x281.jpg 500w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Amy-in-flight.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThis is another hit for screenwriter Gen Urobuchi (<a href=\"\/fun\/tag\/madoka-magica\/?order=asc\"><em>Madoka Magica<\/em><\/a> and <a href=\"\/fun\/tag\/fatezero\/?order=asc\"><em>Fate\/Zero<\/em><\/a>). <em>Madoka<\/em> took the familiar formula of a <a href=\"\/fun\/terms-used-in-anime-reviews#mahou_shoujo\">magical girl<\/a> series and turned it in a new and original direction. <em>Gargantia<\/em> does much the same for a <a href=\"\/fun\/terms-used-in-anime-reviews#mecha\">mecha<\/a> series.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Bevel-with-solar-system-chart.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Bevel-with-solar-system-chart-550x309.jpg\" alt=\"Bevel with solar system chart\" width=\"550\" height=\"309\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-9011\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Bevel-with-solar-system-chart-550x309.jpg 550w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Bevel-with-solar-system-chart-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Bevel-with-solar-system-chart-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Bevel-with-solar-system-chart-500x281.jpg 500w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/Bevel-with-solar-system-chart.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nI would not say that this is as good as <em>Madoka<\/em> but only because <em>Madoka<\/em> is brilliant while <em>Gargantia<\/em> is merely very good. <em>Madoka<\/em> is somewhat darker but the range between its emotional highs and lows are part of its greatness. (<em>Gargantia<\/em> has some dark moments too but they don&#8217;t have quite the same impact.)<\/p>\n<p>Still this is a high-quality effort and deserves a wide audience.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A rousing finale for Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet (Suisei no Garugantia) (Crunchyroll).
