Humanity Has Declined<\/em> (Jinrui wa Suitai Shimashita<\/em>) (Crunchyroll<\/a>) ended much as it began: clever, funny and extremely weird.

\nIt’s hard to categorize this. It doesn’t tell a conventional story but it’s too surreal to be called “slice of life.”<\/p>\n

I’m reminded of the first season of Haruhi Suzumiya<\/em>, not as released on DVD but as originally broadcast<\/a>. Both shows were broadcast with the episodes out of chronological order. The episodes don’t so much tell a story as set up a situation, but when they are viewed in a certain order you do get a story of sorts. (Let’s hope that this time the production company has the sense not to mess with the order for the DVD release.)
