{"id":1522,"date":"2008-08-26T22:07:49","date_gmt":"2008-08-27T03:07:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/?p=1522"},"modified":"2008-09-28T13:36:42","modified_gmt":"2008-09-28T17:36:42","slug":"majokko-tsukune-chan-anime-review","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/2008\/08\/26\/majokko-tsukune-chan-anime-review\/","title":{"rendered":"Majokko Tsukune-chan&#8211;Anime Review"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/image\/stars\/3o5.gif\" alt=\"3 Stars\" \/><br \/>\nThere&#8217;s not much to this one: just a short and funny <a href=\"\/fun\/terms-used-in-anime-reviews#OVA\">OVA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At first glance it looks like a standard <em><a href=\"\/fun\/terms-used-in-anime-reviews\/#kodomo\">kodomo<\/a><\/em> (children&#8217;s) <a href=\"\/fun\/terms-used-in-anime-reviews#anime\">anime<\/a>, with simple, brightly colored artwork, bouncy inane music, and relentlessly upbeat characters. On closer examination there&#8217;s clearly something wrong with it. I don&#8217;t think there&#8217;s enough material here to sustain a television series. Six short episodes are just enough to milk the premise without the joke getting old.<\/p>\n<h3>Parental Advisory<\/h3>\n<p>Though this looks like a children&#8217;s cartoon, I don&#8217;t advise showing it to preschoolers. They will at least be confused and quite likely will be upset. This cartoon contains a number of violent incidents, some of which involve Santa Claus.<\/p>\n<p>Older children, say 10 and up, will probably find it quite funny.<\/p>\n<h3>Characters<\/h3>\n<div class=\"Character\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/tsukunechanbroom.png\" alt=\"Tsukune-chan\" title=\"Tsukune-chan\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1532\" \/><strong>Tsukune-chan<\/strong> is a little witch who goes around helping people in need. Unfortunately the results are often unsatisfactory and sometime grotesque.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Character\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/tsukunechanpupurin.png\" alt=\"Tsukune-chan with Pupurin\" title=\"Tsukune-chan with Pupurin\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1534\" \/>This is different from <em>Magical Witch Punie-chan<\/em> (<em>Dai Mahou Touge<\/em>), a better-known <a href=\"\/fun\/terms-used-in-anime-reviews#mahou_shoujo\">magical girl<\/a> parody. Punie is cute but evil. Tsukune-chan seems to genuinely want to be helpful. If things don&#8217;t work out well it is because her judgment is poor and her attention span short.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Character\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/tsukunechanshouse.png\" alt=\"Tsukune-chan\\&#039;s House\" title=\"Tsukune-chan\\&#039;s House\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1535\" \/>Tsukune-chan lives alone in a cute little cottage. She is not an anime orphan; she corresponds regularly with her Mama and Papa. It is not explained why she doesn&#8217;t live with them.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Character\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/tsukunechancooking.png\" alt=\"Tsukune-chan Cooking\" title=\"Tsukune-chan Cooking\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1533\" \/>If she had the benefit of a mother&#8217;s guidance she probably would understand that she should not cook with rock salt.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Character\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/mrmayor1.png\" alt=\"Mr Mayor\" title=\"Mr Mayor\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1531\" \/><strong>Mr. Mayor<\/strong> doesn&#8217;t devote much time to running the city. He seems to spend most of his time hanging out at Tsukune-chan&#8217;s house and expecting her to solve all his problems.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Character\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/mayorphone.png\" alt=\"Mayor\\&#039;s Legs\" title=\"Mayor\\&#039;s Legs\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1530\" \/>He seems to be a lazy fellow, as well as a slow learner.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Character\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/kokorotonchan.png\" alt=\"Kokoro with Ton-chan\" title=\"Kokoro with Ton-chan\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1528\" \/>Tsukune-chan&#8217;s little sister <strong>Kokoro<\/strong> has not yet learned how to control her magic powers. She has a disconcerting habit of pointing out the differences between the anime and the manga. Her only real fault is that when she sneezes it causes a massive explosion that blows up anything in the vicinity.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Character\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/kanako.png\" alt=\"Kanako\" title=\"Kanako\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1526\" \/>The mayor has a niece named <strong>Kanako<\/strong>. She is a cute little girl who wants to learn magic.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Character\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/magicalitem.png\" alt=\"Magical Item\" title=\"Magical Item\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1529\" \/>Tsukune-chan is happy to help out.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Character\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/uncletony.png\" alt=\"Uncle Tony\" title=\"Uncle Tony\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1536\" \/>Tsukune-chan&#8217;s <strong>Uncle Tony<\/strong> is a famous world traveler.  He brings back souvenirs, many of which are illegal, dangerous or disgusting.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"Character\">\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/08\/charlotteflowersshibata.png\" alt=\"Charlotte Flowers with Shibata\" title=\"Charlotte Flowers with Shibata\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1523\" \/><strong>Charlotte Flowers<\/strong> is an older witch girl. (She seems to be in high school.) She is very competitive and is always challenging Tsukune-chan to magical duels. Fortunately such duels don&#8217;t seem to pose much danger to the participants.
