Instead of copying the Eiffel Tower they went for a futuristic look. (Futuristic from the standpoint of the early 1960s anyway.)<br \/>\n<img src='https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/kyototower.jpg' alt='Kyoto Tower' \/><\/p>\n<p><img src='https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/terierclub.jpg' alt='Terier Club' \/><\/p>\n<p>Whenever he was filming in Kyoto, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Akira_Kurosawa\">Akira Kurosawa<\/a> liked to stay at the Ishihara Ryokan. They still display some of his memorabilia.<br \/>\n<img src='https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/ishihararyokan.jpg' alt='Ishihara \nRyokan' \/><\/p>\n<p><img src='https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/ishiharainterior.jpg' alt='Ishihara Interior' \/><\/p>\n<p><img src='https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/kurosawaitems.jpg' alt='Kurosawa Memorabilia' \/><\/p>\n<p>A <em>bunraku<\/em> performance. This is a type of puppet show in which the puppets are manipulated by black-clad puppeteers.<br \/>\n<img src='https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/bunraku.jpg' alt='Bunraku' \/><\/p>\n<p>Miyako Honma demonstrates the traditional arts of the tea ceremony and kimono making.<br \/>\n<img src='https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/teaceremony.jpg' alt='Tea Ceremony' \/><\/p>\n<p><img src='https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/kimonomaking.jpg' alt='Kimono Making' \/><\/p>\n<p>The Kyoto Handicraft Center is full of shops selling various crafts and artworks.<br \/>\n<img src='https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/swordsandarmor.jpg' alt='Swords and Armor' \/><\/p>\n<p><img src='https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/ebonyboxes.jpg' alt='Boxes' \/><\/p>\n<p><img src='https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/screenpaintings.jpg' alt='Screen Paintings' \/><\/p>\n<p>A damascene craftsman.<br \/>\n<img src='https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/damasceneworker.jpg' alt='Damascene Worker' \/><\/p>\n<p>The chouzuya at the Okazaki Shrine features a large figure of a rabbit. This may have something to do with the fact that the shrine houses the god and goddess of easy childbirth.<br \/>\n<img src='https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/okazakichouzuya.jpg' alt='Chouzuya with Rabbit' \/><\/p>\n<p>Red pandas (&#8220;firefoxes&#8221;) at the Kyoto zoo.<br \/>\n<img src='https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/redpanda1.jpg' alt='Red Panda' \/><\/p>\n<p><img src='https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2007\/12\/redpanda2.jpg' alt='Red Panda' \/><br \/>\nAlthough the red pandas seem happy enough, this zoo is not really world-class.
