I had already praised the <a href=\"\/fun\/2014\/03\/25\/noragami-ends\/\">first season<\/a>. It seemed obvious that anyone who liked the first season would want to watch the second, and anyone who hadn&#8217;t seen the first season would find the second season incomprehensible. <\/p>\n<p>Now, in retrospect, I find that I do have something to say. He spent most of the first season sulking because life (or rather death) had dealt him such a bad hand. By the end of the season he had more or less come to terms with it. In the second season he starts to work hard to make the best of his situation and by the end he has become a character of considerable importance.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Bishamon-with-sword.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11567\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Bishamon-with-sword-550x309.jpg\" alt=\"Bishamon with sword\" width=\"550\" height=\"309\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-11567\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Bishamon-with-sword-550x309.jpg 550w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Bishamon-with-sword-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Bishamon-with-sword-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Bishamon-with-sword-500x281.jpg 500w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Bishamon-with-sword.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nBishamon was always a cool character but she seemed basically crazy. In the second season she becomes much more sympathetic though her judgement still seems questionable. (Perhaps less so to Japanese viewers given the tremendous importance that the culture puts on loyalty and sincerity.)<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Yato-with-father.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11575\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Yato-with-father-550x309.jpg\" alt=\"Yato with father\" width=\"550\" height=\"309\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-11575\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Yato-with-father-550x309.jpg 550w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Yato-with-father-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Yato-with-father-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Yato-with-father-500x281.jpg 500w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Yato-with-father.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nAs for Yato, the &#8220;stray god&#8221; of the title, he spent the first season alternating between acting heroic and acting like a jerk. So he abandoned his former worshipers which left him homeless, subsisting on a series of humiliating odd jobs. He has no idea how a god of fortune should comport himself or how to attract the right sort of worshiper.\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Kofuku-creating-vent.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11569\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Kofuku-creating-vent-550x309.jpg\" alt=\"Kofuku creating vent\" width=\"550\" height=\"309\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-11569\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Kofuku-creating-vent-550x309.jpg 550w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Kofuku-creating-vent-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Kofuku-creating-vent-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Kofuku-creating-vent-500x281.jpg 500w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Kofuku-creating-vent.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nFunimation&#8217;s translation seems somewhat better this season. They do carry over some unfortunate terms from the first season (e.g. &#8220;Regalia&#8221; and &#8220;Phantom&#8221;) but when new terms are introduced the translator makes much better choices (e.g. &#8220;Blessed Vessel.&#8221;)<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Kuraha.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11570\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Kuraha-550x309.jpg\" alt=\"Kuraha\" width=\"550\" height=\"309\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-11570\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Kuraha-550x309.jpg 550w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Kuraha-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Kuraha-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Kuraha-500x281.jpg 500w, https:\/\/bugfox.net\/fun\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Kuraha.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 550px) 100vw, 550px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nI might quibble about the use of &#8220;Conjurer.&#8221; This originally meant someone who summons and controls spirits, especially evil spirits. Based on that meaning the translation is spot on. However in England the word has come to mean a stage magician who relies on trickery. Anyone who understands the word in that sense is likely to be very confused.<\/p>\n<p>But Funimation is an American company and the word isn&#8217;t commonly used here to mean a stage magician.
