I had high hopes after watching the first few episodes of Natsuyuki Rendezvous and it hasn’t disappointed me. It’s not a particularly complicated story and they wrapped it up efficiently in 11 episodes with no bloat, no fillers and no hooks for an unnecessary sequel.

I can’t help making an invidious comparison with last Spring’s Dusk Maiden of Amnesia. Both are somewhat scary supernatural romances but Natsuyuki Rendezvous is in a whole different league: more sophisticated and better executed. (To be fair, Dusk Maiden was obviously aimed at a younger audience.)
